Why our ravintsara is different
An exceptional terroir
Cinnamomum camphora grows all over the world — Asia, Australia, Madagascar. But only the Malagasy terroir, on the Highlands at 1,200 metres, gives this unique chemotype: little or no camphor, more than 50% 1,8-cineole. Our plantation is in Sahambavy, and that soil is what makes the chemical difference in the ravintsara you buy from us.
Harvested by hand, no machines
Every leaf is picked by hand, one by one, by our team on site. No mechanisation. No electric shears. No wood fragments mixed in with the leaves. It is slower, it costs more, and it is why every BETSARA bottle carries the human work of the whole Malagasy supply chain.
A single-plant specialist, not a generalist
BETSARA does not make fifty different essential oils. We work with ravintsara only — in every form: essential oil, hydrolat, herbal teas, balm, elixir, capsules. This focus earned our essential oil the Best Organic Product 2019 award, followed by two further awards for the range in 2022 and 2023 — three awards in total and a place in the all-time top 10 of the Circuit Bio rankings.

A genuine direct supply chain in Madagascar
Our products are harvested and processed in Sahambavy, in partnership with the company GARCILASIO. This lets us control every step of the chain on site: pruning the trees, selecting the leaves, carrying them to the still, distillation, analysis, bottling.
BETSARA was born from a childhood friendship between Tahina and Tristan. Tahina, our French-Malagasy partner, went back to live in Madagascar to create the plantation; together, they founded BETSARA. Today Tristan and Tahina run the brand: a short supply chain, decisions taken together. No holding company, no investment fund, no broker in between. We have been certified organic since 2016, and we publish the composition of every batch.
