Ravintsara hydrolat, the other extract of the leaf

When we distil the ravintsara leaf, we obtain two products, not one:

• The essential oil, lighter, which floats on the surface (the fat-soluble aromatic molecules)
• The hydrolat (or floral water), the water phase, which holds the water-soluble molecules of ravintsara and traces of the aromatic compounds

The hydrolat is far gentler than the essential oil and much better tolerated. It is the form to choose for children, pregnant women (after the first 3 months), sensitive skin, and any use where the pure essential oil would be too concentrated.

The hydrolat at a glance

• Volume: 100 ml, bottle with dropper
• Composition: 100% ravintsara floral water (Cinnamomum camphora), no additives
• Origin: distilled on our plantation in Sahambavy, Madagascar, at the same time as our essential oil

5 everyday uses for ravintsara hydrolat

1. Purifying face mist — spray on the face morning and evening, particularly useful in the cold season or in a polluted environment
2. Compress for children — on a compress during minor seasonal discomfort (a gentle alternative to the essential oil)
3. Added to drinking water — 1 to 2 teaspoons in a glass of water or a herbal tea (an alternative to taking pure essential oil, which is too concentrated)
4. Home-made mouthwash — diluted in a glass of water, as a gargle
5. Pillow mist — spray on the pillow in the evening for a restful night

Why choose the hydrolat over the essential oil?

The essential oil is powerful but calls for strict precautions (dosage, methods, contraindications). The hydrolat offers a gentle alternative:

• Suitable for children from 6 months (diluted on the skin or on a compress)
• Compatible with pregnancy after the first 3 months
• No drops to count
• Easy to take by mouth — a few spoonfuls in a drink, no complicated preparation
• Direct skincare — face mist or toner, no dilution needed

A genuine direct supply chain in Madagascar

Our hydrolat is distilled in Sahambavy, on the Malagasy Highlands, at the same time as our award-winning ravintsara essential oil (Best Organic Product 2019; BETSARA awarded again in 2022). Same leaves, same distillation, same batch traceability. The chromatography reports for every batch are published on our Transparency & Quality page (in French). Tending the trees, harvesting and the entire production are done by hand, without machines.

Precautions for use

• Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
• For babies under 6 months, ask a doctor before use on the skin
• Skin test in the crook of the elbow recommended before first use on sensitive skin
• Store somewhere cool (ideally in the fridge once opened), away from light
• Shorter shelf life than the essential oil (12 months after opening)
• If it turns cloudy or smells unusual, do not use
